Examples of Fascia on bodyTo have an understanding of how Fascial Stretch Therapy is helpful, let’s first discuss what the fascial system is. Fascia is a layer of dense connective tissue. The fascial system diffuses and surrounds all organs, muscles, bones, and nerve fibers, and provides an environment that enables all body systems to operate in an integrated manner. Fascia plays a vital role in the support and function of our bodies since it surrounds and attaches to all structures.

If our bodies are in a healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy and can stretch and move without restriction. If you experience physical trauma, emotional trauma, or inflammation, however, the fascia loses its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted, and a source of tension to the rest of the body. If you have experienced trauma, such as a fall, car accident, whiplash, surgery or just habitual poor posture and repetitive stress injuries, this will have cumulative effects on the body.  Fascial restrictions can exert excessive pressure causing all kinds of symptoms and can affect our flexibility and stability.
