Healing your gut and to have improved health can takes time, but it is possible.
Follow the 5 R’s to Healing Your Gut, and you will be on the right path to feeling better.
To start, take five minutes, and for each R, begin to make a list for yourself of what you can do to start the process to a happier gut.
1. Remove the Stress – Go through an elimination process and each day attempt to remove something that will negatively affect the environment of your GI tract such as foods that may feel uncomfortable to your gut after eating, parasites or other bad bugs such as bacteria or yeast. This might involve using an allergy “elimination diet” to find out what foods are causing GI symptoms or it may involve taking drugs or herbs to eradicate a particular bug.
2. Replace Digestive Secretions: If you are not taking any Digestive Enzymes, consider adding them to your daily plan. They are required for proper digestion and can be compromised by diet, drugs, diseases, aging, or other environmental factors.
3. Re-inoculate– Help beneficial bacteria flourish by taking in Probiotic foods or supplements that contain the “good” bacteria such as Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus species. Consume high soluble fiber foods that good bugs like to eat, called “Prebiotics.”
4. Repair – Help the lining of the GI tract repair itself by supplying key nutrients that can often be in short supply in a disease or unhealthy states, such as zinc, antioxidants (e.g. vitamins A, C, and E), fish oil, and the amino acid Glutamine.
5. Re-balance – Pay attention to lifestyle choices – sleep, exercise and decrease stress can all have a positive effect on the GI Tract.
